Institutional Surveys and Results


College of Notre Dame of Maryland is committed to collecting data and using information to gauge our performance and continuously improve the academic programs and services provided to our students. The following is a selection of the surveys in which the college participates regularly. The Office of Institutional Research is charged with collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and disseminating survey data and results.

Title: Graduating Senior Survey
Organization: Internal
Information Summary: This web-based survey is administered to graduating seniors before students graduate from the college. The survey collects information on student post-graduation plans, major experiences, administrative department assessment, and student perceptions on general education learning outcomes. The data collected informs us how students viewed their experiences here, and helps us identify areas where the college can improve.

Title: Bachelor's Recipient Follow-up Survey
Organization: Internal
Information Summary: This survey is administered to the Bachelor degree recipients who graduated from the college within a year. The survey lets us keep in touch with the students as they have embarked on the exciting phase of their career, and helps us better understand any ongoing transitional needs students have as they pursue their vocational and career callings. The information gathered from past surveys assisted us in promoting experiential learning and in enhancing career development programs on campus.

Title: National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) (http://nsse.iub.edu/html/)
Organization: Indiana University
Information Summary: The survey is designed to obtain information from scores of colleges and universities nationwide about student participation in programs and activities that institutions provide for their learning and personal development. The information gathered is used to promote student engagement in inside and outside the classroom activities, inform accountability and accreditation, and facilitate national and sector benchmarking.

Title:Cooperative Institutional Research Programs (CIRP) Freshman Survey (http://www.gseis.ucla.edu/heri/freshman.html )
Organization: Higher Education Research Institute (HERI)
Information Summary: The survey provides summary information about the demographics, level of academic preparation, and academic and non-academic interests of entering freshmen. The survey results help us understand more completely the characteristics of entering freshman so as to develop new or modify existing programs and services accordingly.

Title: Admitted Student Questionnaire (http://www.collegeboard.com/highered/ra/asq.html)
Organization: The College Board
Information Summary: This survey asks admitted students to evaluate their application process, recruitment literature, financial aid packages, and so on. Students also rate the college image, academic reputation, cost of attendance, and quality of academic facilities. The collected information assists us in marketing research, better understanding student needs, and improving the performance in enrollment management areas.

Title: College Student Inventory (http://www.noellevitz.com/About+Us/)
Organization: Novel-Letiz
Information Summary: This survey is administered to the incoming freshman during summer orientation times. It provides a measurement tool to access some of the qualitative items that have proven important to student success in college. The survey is used as a part of retention and graduation management efforts to identify students at risk, intervene, and ultimately, increase retention and graduation rates of the College.

Title: Student Satisfaction Inventory (http://www.noellevitz.com/About+Us/)
Organization: Novel-Letiz
Information Summary: This survey is administered to Women?s College students. It measures what students care most about in terms of their college experience as well as how well the College meets their expectations. The information gathered from past administration of this survey has assisted us in better understanding student expectations, sharpening communications, and making improvement.

Title: Adult Student Priority Survey (http://www.noellevitz.com/About+Us/)
Organization: Novel-Letiz
Information Summary: This survey is administered to Weekend, Accelerated, and Graduate students. It is geared specifically to the issues facing the students enrolled in evening and weekend programs. The survey measures what?s important to adult learners and how satisfied they are with programs and services offered by the campus. This survey along with all of our campus-wide assessment activities, provides valuable information as together we build a dynamic learning-centered community.

Title: HERI Faculty Survey (http://www.gseis.ucla.edu/heri/faculty.html)
Organization: University of California, Los Angeles
Information Summary: The HERI Faculty Survey is administered to full-time faculty and measures the attitudes, experiences, concerns, job satisfaction, workload, teaching practices, and professional activities of collegiate faculty and administrators. Information resulting from the survey has been used to facilitate self study and accreditation activities, inform campus planning and policy analysis, enhance faculty development programs, and improve students? educational experiences.

Title: Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (http://fsse.iub.edu/index.cfm)
Organization: Indiana University
Information Summary: The survey is administered to full-time faculty and measures faculty expectations for student engagement in educational practices that are known to be empirically linked with high level of learning and development. The survey results help the College enrich student experience, reform curriculum, and enhance faculty development programs
