Accelerated Certification for Teaching

For those with a non-teaching bachelor's degree who want to become certified teachers. Students include recent college graduates, career changers and retirees seeking a second career. Required courses may also be taken during the day.

This program meets initial certification requirements for:

  • elementary education
  • secondary education
  • special education for elementary or secondary
  • early childhood education

Program of Study

The program of study requires 21 credits for secondary, including 9 credits in the core program and 24 credits for elementary, including 9 credits in the core program. Additional credits are required for dual certification in early childhood or special education. Required courses may also be taken during the day.

With special permission, a candidate may use a teaching position in lieu of the semester internship. This “teacher of record” status is documented by the candidate’s registering for a 3-credit internship.
