Undergraduate Programs
Undergraduate candidates can complete a Bachelor’s degree (4yrs.) or a Master’s degree (5 yrs.) in Elementary Education with a choice of four different certifications:
- BA in Liberal Studies/Elementary Education certification
- BA in Liberal Studies/Elementary Education with dual certification in Early Childhood
- BA in Liberal Studies/Elementary Education with dual certification in Special Education
- BA in Liberal Studies/Elementary Education with dual certification in TESOL
- BA/MAT in Liberal Studies/Elementary Education certification
- BA/MAT in Liberal Studies/Elementary Education with dual certification in Early Childhood
- BA/MAT in Liberal Studies/Elementary Education with dual certification in Special Education
- BA/Mat in Liberal Studies/Elementary Education with dual certification in TESOL
Candidates for Secondary Education major in an academic discipline, ( i.e., Art, Biology, English, etc.) and follow a planned minor in Secondary Education, completing required academic and professional courses, as well as extensive internship experiences in Professional Development Schools.

All Secondary Education MATs may have dual certification with Special Education.
Since 1993, Elementary Education programs have been available in the Weekend College (WEC).
Candidates in the Women’s College and WEC complete the same program of study, including internships. In 2007 the Accelerated Certification Program for Teaching (ACT) was initiated.
Since 2005, Candidates in the undergraduate programs who choose the Bachelor of Arts/Master’s of Arts in Teaching (BA/MAT) option for certification complete the BA in an academic major and then enter the MAT to complete their required education program. (ACC)
Candidates in all education programs are required to complete an electronic portfolio that includes a variety of artifacts that demonstrate the ability of the candidates to successfully meet the standards within education.(BA/MAT)
Post Baccalaureate Programs
Accelerated Certification for Teaching (ACT)
This non-degree, graduate-level, state approved program prepares women and men with non-teaching degrees to succeed as teachers. This program meets initial certification requirements for:

Master of Arts in Leadership in Teaching (LDT)
The Master of Arts in Leadership in Teaching program provides advanced study for professionals who wish to become master teachers with the commitment and skills to provide for the success of their students and the leadership development of their peers. Flexible scheduling allows students to choose times of study convenient for them: evening, weekend, or summer classes.

Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)
Studying full or part time, year-round, students can earn their MAT in two years or less. With a strong liberal arts foundation, students complete professional work integrating theory and practical application, and participate in an extended internship in a professional development school.

Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
The Master of Arts in TESOL provides a program of advanced study for professionals who wish to pursue careers in teaching English as a second or foreign language. The program consists of six core courses (18 credits), which are required for all students enrolled in the program. Students’ additional course requirements depend on their choice of concentration, either teaching ESOL in U.S. schools K to 12, or teaching ESOL in post-secondary education, in addition to non-traditional educational settings, such as adult education ESL programs, or English as a Foreign Language programs abroad.

Certificate of Advanced Study in Education in Instructional Leadership (CASE)
The Certificate of Advanced Study in Education in Instructional Leadership is a 30 credit program for experienced educators who have completed a master’s degree. The program provides advanced studies in leadership, curriculum and pedagogy. Through a curriculum designed to integrate theory and practice, educators acquire or enhance skills that will meet the needs of future educational leaders. This 30 credit program consists of six 600 level courses and four electives. Electives may be taken in a student’s area of special interest.
Doctoral Program
Doctor of Philosophy in Instructional Leadership for Changing Populations
The Ph.D. in Instructional Leadership for Changing Populations is designed to prepare graduates who will be equipped to provide instructional leadership for linguistically and culturally non-mainstream learners at the classroom level and whose research will contribute to knowledge in the field. The driving purpose of the program is to bring the best of relevant contemporary scholarship to bear on creating learning environments that improve the academic performance of all students and to meet the particular needs of these new learners. The program requires a knowledge core, a research core, comprehensive examinations and a formal dissertation. Depending on the prior graduate work of the student, 45 to 60 credits will be required to complete the degree.
