Environmental Sustainability

We’re looking for students interested in recognizing and solving the world’s environmental problems.

Environmental Sustainability students learn about the relationships between environmental concerns and social, political and economic institutions.

You will develop the knowledge, skills and commitment to display a passion for the natural environment, developing tools to advocate for environmental protection and environmental justice.

You will effectively and persuasively communicate, drawing on your strengths to respond to environmental challenges at local, regional and global levels and propose solutions.

Most importantly, our students learn to be models for environmental justice education through teaching, scholarship and community outreach, with special emphasis on working in solidarity with the poor to prevent environmental degradation.

Whether in business, government, education or the nonprofit seector, you will be empowered to act as responsible stewards, mindful of Earth’s delicate balance and motivated to seek solutions.

There are three degree options to choose from, with majors consisting of 44-50 credits depending on the chosen track:

  • Environmental Sustainability Major (BA) with science emphasis
  • Environmental Sustainability Major (BA) with public policy emphasis
  • Environmental Sustainability Major (BA) with sustainable entrepreneurship emphasis

Program students will also have the opportunity to connect their environmental studies coursework with the University’s international programs, including Alternative Spring Break, Service Abroad, and a diverse array of short-term and semester-length study abroad options, such as service with SSNDs abroad.
