How We Learn
How do we learn at Notre Dame? It’s a mouthful (at least in Latin): "Veritatem Prosequimur." It means simply, "We pursue truth." But of course there’s more to it than that. Pursuing the truth goes far beyond learning. It means holding yourself to a higher standard of integrity and empathy reflected by our Catholic tradition. It means being a Notre Dame woman.
From your first day forward, your experience of learning at Notre Dame will happen both in and outside the classroom. And for a very good reason—we simply want you to succeed. In order to help you build the discipline and drive you need to accomplish that, we offer you a wide range of resources to get you on your way.
- The College’s first year seminar (IDS 100) provides additional support to first year students by helping them to become successful learners, to make informed decisions about their lives, and to take responsibility for their intellectual and professional growth.
- Student advising by Notre Dame faculty members focuses on each student’s individual development as well as educational and career goal setting, starting freshman year.
- A complete set of academic resources—from the online Blackboard course management system and learning labs to tailored services that address specific challenges such as learning disabilities—are available to all.
- Baltimore’s College Consortium, an exchange program with area colleges and universities, gives Notre Dame students the opportunity to take regular program classes at Goucher College, Johns Hopkins University, Loyola College, Maryland Institute College of Art, Coppin State University, Morgan State University and Towson University.
