Message from the Dean
This is truly an exciting time to be in nursing. A recent landmark study on the nursing profession, The Future of Nursing, states that:
- Nurses should practice to the full extent of their education and training.
- Nurses should achieve higher levels of education and training through an improved education system that promotes seamless academic progression.
- Nurses should be full partners, with physicians and other health care professionals, in redesigning health care in the United States.
- Effective workforce planning and policy making require better data collection and information infrastructure. (The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, October 5, 2010, Institute of Medicine).
We are more than 3 million strong, the principal healthcare professionals in the nation. And we are facing a shortage of one million by 2020. The challenges are large; at Notre Dame of Maryland University, you will immerse yourself in an educational experience that will prepare you to practice fully, seamlessly achieve high levels of education, be full partners with other health care professionals and understand effective workforce planning and health care policy.
We offer an entry level program in our Women’s College; an accelerated RN to BSN program in our College of Undergraduate Studies; and masters of science in nursing programs, Leadership in Nursing Administration and Leadership in Nursing Education, in the College of Graduate Studies. All of our programs are steeped in a caring curriculum where you will experience personal, as well as professional, transformation. We are planning a new building, slated to be opened in fall 2013. The building will house the School of Nursing, including a Center for Caring with Technology. The Center will have high tech simulation labs, telehealth, and digital patient records, all housed in a human interactive space that helps students remember that the patient in the bed is a fellow human being.
At Notre Dame of Maryland University, you will learn to change the face of healthcare, one patient at a time, one interaction at a time, one healthcare policy at a time. Let us help you to fulfill the promise of The Future of Nursing.
Sincerely,
