CONTENT:

This course is an introduction to the art of digital photography. Through webquests, dialog with the instructor and other students in the course, and assignments students will learn the fundamentals of camera selection and usage, image editing, and photographic composition. Students must have their own camera. While a digital camera is preferable, any camera is suitable. Open to CAUS students only. Fulfills General Education requirement in Fine Arts for CAUS students; general elective.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

-Basic understanding of camera operation.

-Image editing.

-An appreciation and comprehension of the aesthetics of art and photographic vision.

METHODS:

-WebQuests.

-Video screening on the art and practice of photography.

-Group critiques and discussions.

REQUIREMENTS AND ASSIGNMENTS:

-Weekly shooting assignments. 70%

-Quizzes. 20%

-Attendance and participation in critiques. 10%

-Any digital point & shoot or dSLR camera.
