SCHEDULE/DAY/TIME: Monday-Friday/8:00-3:30 p.m./January 4 – Friday, January 25, 2013
CONTENT: This course provides direct instructional field experience in Baltimore area schools. This focus is on school organization and curriculum as well as issues in teaching and learning. A key purpose of the course is to assist the teacher candidates in making a career choice by living full time in the school environment during the school days in January, observing and participating in the day-to-day life of the school and assisting with the tasks of the teacher.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
-To experience the roles and tasks of the teacher and participate in classroom activities.
-To be able to describe the philosophy, characteristics, organization and management of the school.
-To demonstrate skill in observing and interpreting classroom management.
-To examine curriculum guides and other materials.
METHODS: Classroom participation and observation
REQUIREMENTS AND ASSIGNMENTS:
Daily attendance in an assigned school for three weeks in January; attendance at beginning and ending seminars on campus; completion of all required assignments
REQUIRED TEXT: None; Materials are distributed at the first meeting on campus.
ASSIGNMENTS PRIOR TO THE FIRST CLASS: Required attendance at opening session in Gibbons Hall, Room 325 (Ed. Lab) on January 4, 2-13, from 9 am – 1 pm.
