CONTENT:
This course is designed to develop the musical skills and knowledge of elementary education majors. The areas covered to prepare prospective teachers to use some music activities in the classroom are: reading music; learning to play classroom instruments—percussion, autoharp, guitar, recorder, and piano; learning musical forms and styles; methodologies of presenting songs and musical activities in the elementary school.
Fulfills Fine Arts requirement. No prior background necessary. Other majors besides elementary education are also welcomed into the course.
METHODS:
demonstrations; singing, moving, instrumental, listening, and creative activities in the elementary school; music notation assignments
REQUIREMENTS AND ASSIGNMENTS:
**Class attendance and participation for each session is required**
DO NOT REGISTER FOR THIS COURSE UNLESS YOU WILL ATTEND ALL CLASSES
absences are not acceptable in this course.
--Class participation and written assignments for each class session—70%
--3 creative projects: Observation Report; Song Presentation: Instruments of the Orchestra Chart—30 %
