PED-129-20, Racquetball (SP14)

INSTRUCTOR:  Melissa Falen

SCHEDULE/DAY/TIME:  Weekly, Wednesday evenings (Women’s College Schedule), 7:00-8:00 pm.

CONTENT: 

The course will introduce the student to the game of racquetball. In addition to the rules of the game, the student will be instructed in basic skills and strategies.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 

Students will learn and demonstrate the basic skills and knowledge needed to play the game of racquetball.  In addition, students will develop an appreciation of physical activity.

METHODS: 

Lecture, demonstration, instructional video, peer evaluation and review of student play (including video analysis) will be the prevalent methods of teaching.

REQUIREMENTS AND ASSIGNMENTS: 

Students will meet with the instructor during regular class time once a week. They will sign up to practice on their own once a week. The instructor will provide practice guidelines prior to each independent practice. A test will be given mid-semester. A final exam will be given during the final exam period.

Grading Policy:  A minimum grade average of 60% is needed to pass the

297 – 330 = A; 290 – 296 = B+; 264 – 289 = B; 257 – 263 = C+ ; 231 – 256 = C; 198 – 230 = D; 0 – 197 = F

CLASS PARTICIPATION & PRACTICE ASSIGNMENTS - 130 PTS

WRITTEN TESTS - 100 PTS

SKILLS TEST(S) - 100 PTS

REQUIRED TEXT(S) OR MATERIALS: 

Student are required to have access to a copy of Beginning Racquetball (7th edition or later), which is available in the bookstore.

RECOMMENDED READINGS OR MATERIALS: 

The student is expected to read all handouts distributed in class.

READINGS AND/OR ASSIGNMENTS TO BE DONE PRIOR TO THE FIRST CLASS:

NONE

Note:  Students will not need to come dressed to play for the first day of class.
