Summer Programs
The English Language Institute will offer a summer 8-week session from June 4 - July 27, 2012. Full-time and part-time study is available.
The summer academic program has been designed to help students improve their language skills in a whole language class. Full-time students will be in class for 15 hours a week and will also work with classmates on projects outside of class and in the language lab for an additional 3 hours a week. Part-time students will have a variety of class options to fit their schedule.
Full-Time Program
- Integrated Skills classes - Improve listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in one class as you work together on a project to be presented at the end of the session.
- Morning classes - Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
- Afternoon component (required) - Wednesdays from 1 - 4 p.m.
- Explore Baltimore and practice English in the “real world” on ELI trips around the area.
- Full-time tuition: $1,850, Fees: $100
Part-Time Classes
Integrated Language Skills
Intermediate-level course
In this course, intermediate-level students will review the listening, speaking, writing and grammar skills needed for everyday life in the U.S. as well as for academic preparation for future study in the U.S.
Tuesdays and Thursdays 1–3 p.m. OR 6–8 p.m. (6/7 – 7/26), $350 (30 class hours)
Strategies for Academic Reading & Writing
Advanced-level course
This class will focus on the advanced reading and writing skills needed for success in an American university. In addition to improving writing and grammar skills, reading comprehension and vocabulary development strategies will be taught.
Tuesdays and Thursdays 1–4 p.m. OR 6–9 p.m. (6/7 – 7/26), $500 (45 class hours)
Intermediate Vocabulary & Reading
Intermediate-level course
This class offer students a unique opportunity to continue improving reading skills while developing necessary vocabulary for relevant situations. Readings are selected from academic writings and vocabulary is explored through context, grammar and word parts. The class reinforces skills needed for students who plan to take the TOEFL test or continue academic studies.
Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30–11:30 a.m. (6/12 – 7/31), $350 (30 class hours)
Skills Review for the TOEFL
Low intermediate-level course
This course reinforces basic skills that lower-level students need to begin their preparation for further TOEFL study.

Introduction to TOEFL
Intermediate-level course
This course introduces intermediate-level ESL students to all IBT TOEFL questions, using vocabulary that is at their level. Intensive practice both in class and at home familiarizes students with the TOEFL exam.
