Art Department
The art department cultivates skills and instincts to empower creative expression and produce meaningful, contemporary works of art.
Through artistic exploration, experimentation, and analysis of historic pieces, our department builds a foundation in aesthetics and concepts to help you find your voice in the lifelong process of personal, creative, and intellectual growth.
We provide a dynamic learning environment that serves as an integral part of the liberal arts tradition at Notre Dame of Maryland University.

- Art (concentrations in art history, pre-museum studies, photography & studio)
- Art Education (dual certification to teach art in Maryland from PreK-12)

Art Scholarship Competition
Incoming art majors and minors can apply for one of several NDMU art scholarships through our Art Scholarship Competition. Awards are up to $20,000 ($5,000 per year).
Art Portfolios
Portfolios are required for admission into the Art Education, Photography, and Studio Art programs and are also used to determine recipients of the Art Scholarship awards.
Our Department
The art department hosts two galleries on campus that feature exhibits by students, alumnae, and faculty, in addition to community, regional, and national artists. We also host a regular lunchtime lecture series where we invite guest speakers to discuss topics in art and art history.
