Notre Dame is a member of NCAA Division III and competes in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC), formerly known as the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC). CSAC Commissioner Amy Frankenstein-Friedman recently announced that the PAC has changed its name to the CSAC effective July 1, 2008.
With the new name comes a massive re-branding effort that will change the identity of the conference. "This is an exciting time for the conference," Commissioner Frankenstein-Friedman said. "The new name recognizes that we have member schools that are not in Pennsylvania…It was also important that the historical significance of the area be represented somehow. I think we’ve accomplished that."
Notre Dame offers eight intercollegiate sports: basketball, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis and volleyball.
Colleges and universities in Division III place highest priority on the overall quality of the educational experience and on the successful completion of all students' academic programs. We seek to establish and maintain an environment where student-athletes' athletic activities are conducted as an integral part of their education experience.
Notre Dame student-athletes have achieved a high amount of success, both in the playing arena and in the classroom. Student-athletes have maintained a cumulative GPA of higher than 3.0 for 18 consecutive semesters. They have been the recipients of numerous prestigious awards, including a Fulbright Scholarship, two NCAA Woman of the Year awards for the State of Maryland and three NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarships.
