2007-2008 Season Outlook
Pacing the Gators into the 2007-2008 season are senior Lauren Ackerman and junior Veronica Pierce. Last year, the duo set six individual records and contributed to a relay record. Ackerman earned ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team honors in 2007 for her achievements in the pool and the classroom. She also won the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference Donna Ledwin Award as the conference's most Outstanding Scholar-Athlete.
In the pool, Ackerman set new school records in the 100-and 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley. She also set AWCC Championships records in the 100-yard backstroke and the 100-yard breaststroke.
Pierce was productive as well, breaking school records in the 1,000-and 1,650 yard freestyle events. She also broke the College record in the 400-yard individual medley.
Senior Natalia Seymour is another Gator to watch. She won the 1,000-yard freestyle at the AWCC Championships and was a member of the school-record setting 800-yard freestyle relay team.
Fellow seniors Renee DeLisle, Torre Bassett, Lauren Coon and Caroline Munley will provide depth in several strokes and distances.
Juniors Meg Rooney and Stacey Simmons excel in the butterfly and backstroke, respectively.
Sophomore Brigitta Long developed into a scoring sprinter last season, and follow sophomores Katryn Ellis and Jean Taylor will see plenty of pool time, too. Freshman Ashley Fleming will be in the mix to provide points.
