Accessibility Accommodations for Commencement

The University is committed to providing seating at its Commencement events for attendees (students and/or guests) with accessibility needs or requiring accommodations.

Persons with needed accommodations may only be accompanied by one additional companion in each reserved seating section. Due to space limitations, the office cannot accommodate entire families and guests in reserved seating.

Frequently Asked Questions

I am a graduate who needs accommodations. Who should I contact about accommodations during the Commencement ceremony?

If you are a graduate with a disability and require accommodations during the Commencement Liturgy or Commencement Ceremony, please contact  Amy Morales, Director of Accessibility and Health Promotion, at 410-532-5401 or amorales@ndm.edu so that proper arrangements can be made.

Where should we enter the building?

The Royal Farms Arena has accessible seats located throughout the Arena. There are elevators and escalators in the building that will allow you to avoid the stairs.

Royal Farms Arena is a very large facility. Considering that your guest might have limited mobility, you may want to consider renting a wheelchair for them that day. If you decide on a wheelchair, only one additional guest may also sit in the accessible seating section. An usher will direct you to the accessible seating section the day of the event.

Anyone needing these accommodations will need to contact the University's Disability Support Services Office at 410-532-5401 or amorales@ndm.edu.

I have a guest who needs wheelchair accessible seating. What should I do?

A wheelchair accessible seating section for those with guests who require accommodations will be available during the Commencement ceremony. Please contact Amy Morales, Director of Accessibility and Health Promotion at 410-532-5401 or amorales@ndm.edu so that proper arrangements can be made. Please note that only 1 additional guests will be permitted to sit with a guest who needs accommodations in the wheelchair accessible seating section.

If you need assistance while at the Arena, a limited number of wheelchairs are available. Wheelchairs cannot be assigned for the entire event; due to the limited number, they may only be used to transport an individual to their seat and cannot be used outside the Arena to transport an individual to their vehicle. Patrons are encouraged to contact a Royal Farms Arena staff member upon arrival to make arrangements for their wheelchair needs.

My grandparent cannot walk long distances but does not have a wheelchair. Can my grandparent still get seating accommodations?

Please note that the accessible seating section provides extra room for those who need space for a wheel chair. There are elevators and ramps in the building that will allow you to avoid the stairs.

The accessible seating section is not significantly closer to the entrance of the arena as the Royal Farms Arena is a very large facility. Considering that your grandparent (or other guest) has very limited mobility, we highly recommend renting a wheelchair for that guest.

If you decide on a wheelchair, please contact Amy Morales, Director of Accesibility and Health promotion at 410-532-5401 or amorales@ndm.edu so that proper arrangements can be made. One additional guest will be permitted to sit with your grandparent.

Will you have wheelchairs available at the Royal Farms Arena?

If you need assistance while at the Arena, a limited number of wheelchairs are available. Wheelchairs cannot be assigned for the entire event; due to the limited number, they may only be used to transport an individual to their seat and cannot be used outside the Arena to transport an individual to their vehicle.
