Notre Dame of Maryland University has begun registration for three Spanish Language and Culture classes that will run during the fall semester.

Two sessions of Spanish Language and Culture (Part 1) will be offered on Tuesdays starting on September 24 and running through November 26. Afternoon sessions will be offered from 3 to 5 p.m. and evening sessions will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m.

Spanish Language and Culture (Part 2) will be offered Wednesday afternoons from 3 to 5 p.m. starting September 25 and concluding December 4.

Spanish Language and Culture (Part 3) will be offered on Monday afternoons from 4 to 6 p.m. starting on September 23 and running through November 25.

About the program:

Spanish Language and Culture (Part 1) is geared toward professionals or volunteers who work with the Hispanic community in schools, hospitals, parishes, community-based organizations or other professional setting. The language component enables one to learn basic conversational skills and elemental phrases to better communicate with Spanish-speaking persons. Good pronunciation, listening and speaking skills are emphasized. The cultural component emphasizes the spirituality, customs and traditions of Hispanics. (No prior experience in Spanish is necessary).

Spanish Language and Culture (Part 2) emphasizes good pronunciation and speaking skills and provides greater focus on grammar, particularly the past tense, in order to increase conversational skills. Further study of cultural expressions to deepen understanding of the Hispanic community will be explored. (Prerequisite: Part 1 or equivalent).

Spanish Language and Culture (Part 3) further strengthens listening and speaking skills. Attention is focused on using the language in practical, conversational ways, drawing on the needs and experiences of the participants. There is also a continued grammar and cultural component. (Prerequisite: Part 2 or equivalent).

Enrollment is limited, and early registration is recommended. The fee for each course is $400 per person or $1,050 for three participants if registered by September 9, 2013. After that date the fee is $425 per person or $1,125 for three participants.
