Psychology Externship
The Counseling Center provides graduate level externship opportunities to four students each year. Externs carry a full case load of diverse, individual clients and have the opportunity to conduct psychotherapy groups, outreach programs, and consultations with students, faculty, and staff. The successful candidate is pursuing a Master's or Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or Counseling, can commit to 20 hours per week for the entire academic year, and has qualities of initiative and autonomy. Some counseling experience is preferred.
Externs are given an hour of individual supervision and two hours of group supervision each week. In order to facilitate individual supervision, externs record psychotherapy sessions (with client’s consent) and submit a session each week for the director to review. Group supervision provides externs with an opportunity to share professional concerns and to facilitate each other's growth as practitioners.
