More information about NDMU Day of Service 2023 will be available this winter.

NDMU Day of Service

The annual NDMU Day of Service unites the Notre Dame of Maryland University community in service to humankind, showing our NDMU pride and the collective power of volunteerism. This event is open to all members of the Notre Dame community who wish to make their local communities an even better place.

What is NDMU Day of Service?

Community service is an integral component of the student experience at Notre Dame, so we want to extend that experience to our alumni. This is a wonderful way for members of the Notre Dame community to meet and reconnect with alumni who share this commitment to giving back. For many participants, the program can provide the opportunity to share this value with their families and friends through a shared experience together on projects. Projects are open to everyone in the Notre Dame community and include exclusive NDMU swag. There are opportunities for everyone to get involved and make a difference!

Can anyone participate in NDMU Day of Service? How can I get involved?

Alumni and friends of NDMU are all encouraged to participate. When you register, you will be asked to sign up anyone else you are bringing with you to your event. This includes family members, spouses or partners, friends, and colleagues. All alumni must register on their own and cannot register another alum, regardless if you are attending with other alumni.

What if there is no service project in my community?

You may coordinate with a community partner or other alumni in your area by registering your own service project. We ask that you still register for NDMU Day of Service and tell us what project you plan to do! Once you have chosen a project to organize, we can advertise it to other alumni near you to join.

Here are some project ideas:

  • Beautify your neighborhood by picking up trash at your local park or along the road (if it's safe to do so)
  • Do yard work for a neighbor in need
  • Donate blood to the American Red Cross
  • Clean up/weed a community garden in preparation for planting season
  • Contact your local community center to identify needs and drop off supplies
  • Contact your local library and donate books if they are accepting
  • Serve food at a meal center or drop off food at the local food bank
  • Volunteer at your local hospital or retirement community
  • Volunteer at, or donate needed supplies to, your local animal shelter
  • Write to service members through one of the many organizations found online
  • Volunteer at your local COVID-19 vaccination center
How can I support the University in addition to my local community?

Donations are always appreciated. You can choose to make a gift to the University which is 100% tax-deductible on our Giving website.
