Renaissance Institute
The Renaissance Institute is an active group of men and women who have reached the age of 50 and are interested in pursuing lifelong learning and intellectual growth.
Study topics are limited only by the collective imagination of the members, who come from various backgrounds. The breadth of the group’s imagination is evident in the diversity of subjects. Courses include public affairs, literature, writing, history, philosophy, music, art, languages, t’ai chi, film, science, computers, water aerobics, dance and acting, and more!

Established in 1989 as a learning cooperative, the Institute offers two 13-week semesters of noncredit courses designed and led by the members themselves. Working with a campus-based director, the members plan, lead and enroll in a series of courses held on Tuesdays and Thursdays every spring and fall semester.
Membership offers the following opportunities:
- enrollment in as many Renaissance courses as you wish every fall and spring (no tests or required papers)
- lunchtime enrichment lectures featuring guest speakers
- a copy of Reflections, Renaissance Institute's art and literary magazine
- auditing of one credit course per year in the Women's College program (on a space-available basis)
- full privileges at the award-winning Loyola/Notre Dame Library
- summer and winter activities
- eligibility for travel programs of the Renaissance Institute
- reduced admission fees for many University events
- invitations to the many Renaissance Institute social activities
- use of the University campus, including the dance studio and art studios for Renaissance classes
