Brightview Homeland Project

Brightview’s Senior Living Community is Under Construction on NDMU’s Campus

Brightview Senior Living is constructing a new senior living community on the campus on unused land at the site of the former Knights of Columbus building on Homeland Avenue. Brightview is fully financing both the demolition and construction of this project.

If you have additional questions that are not answered here, please feel free to reach out to Greg FitzGerald, Chief of Staff & Vice President of Planning and External Affairs, at gfitzgerald@ndm.edu.

Who is financing this project?

Brightview is fully financing both the demolition and construction of their project. NDMU is leasing the land to Brightview, and the University is not financially responsible for the project and is not operating the Brightview residence.

How long will the demolition take?

Demolition of the former Knights of Columbus building began on January 21, 2026.

The demolition, along with site clean-up, is expected to take approximately two weeks.

How long will the construction take?

Construction of Brightview's new senior living community is on track for building construction to begin later in 2026 and for the building to open two years later in 2028.

How will this project affect NDMU students and the Brightview residents?

One of the goals is to create experiential opportunities that benefit NDMU students and the Brightview residents. Such opportunities for students may include internships across a variety of healthcare and other fields, service-learning, and mentorship.

Brightview residents will have access to campus lectures, arts and athletic events, and Renaissance Institute programming.

What is the history of this project?

In 2020, NDMU announced a long-term ground lease agreement with Brightview Senior Living in which Brightview would construct a 170-unit senior living community on 3.7 acres of NDMU’s campus along Homeland Ave (former Knights of Columbus property and adjacent land).
