Set at a time when women were seeking greater educational and professional opportunities, the novel follows Rhoda Nunn and Mary Barfoot as they train young women for careers as clerks while challenging the social expectations of their day. Written just two years after the founding of the College of Notre Dame, The Odd Women offers a fascinating glimpse into the changing roles of women at the end of the nineteenth century.
