NDMU President Marylou Yam Named to Higher Education Power List
The Daily Record Honors Dr. Yam as a Top Higher Education Leader in Maryland
Dr. Marylou Yam

BALTIMORE – The Daily Record has selected Notre Dame of Maryland University’s president, Dr. Marylou Yam, for its 2023 Higher Education Power List. The editorial team chose the list of powerful figures in Maryland who are helping guide their institutions in the ever-changing field of higher education.

As NDMU’s 14th president since 2014, Dr. Yam is a visionary leader with a commitment to innovation and service. She has led the effort to develop the University’s five-year strategic plan, Going Beyond: Vision 2025, that is guiding NDMU's path in institutional growth, historic fundraising, and overall excellence to fulfill the University’s mission.

Under her leadership, NDMU launched Maryland's first bachelor's and master's degree programs in art therapy, and the state's first doctoral program in occupational therapy at a private university. The University introduced NDMU Online in 2016 and offers several fully online degree programs for adult undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students. Last fall, the University launched master’s degree programs in family and adult/gerontology in nurse practitioner studies, and NDMU will offer a master’s program in physician assistant studies in fall 2023. In addition, Notre Dame launched the cutting-edge IMPRINT leadership development program for women students, based on the research of a task force of experts of Notre Dame faculty, alumnae, and community leaders.

Her service to the state and community is extensive. Appointed by the governor to the Maryland Commission on Women, Dr. Yam chaired the Health & Wellness Committee for three years and led the development of the Maryland Women: A Status Report, completed in 2021. She is the current chair of the Maryland Independent Colleges and Universities Association and serves on the Greater Baltimore President’s Advisory Committee. She has held several board positions, including past vice chair of the Keswick Multi-Care Center, chair of the Colonial States Athletic Conference, and trustee on the board of Caroline Center.

Dr. Yam was named to
2022 Higher Education Power 30 list by The Daily Record. In addition, The Daily Record has twice named Dr. Yam to the Maryland Top 100 Women list in 2020 and 2017, and selected her as one of Maryland’s Most Admired CEOs in 2021.

Established in 1895, Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU) is a private, Catholic institution in Baltimore, Maryland, with the mission to educate leaders to transform the world. Notre Dame has been named one of the best "Regional Universities North" by U.S. News & World Report.
