When Sarah Generoso ’25 began her journey at Notre Dame of Maryland University, she was looking for more than just a rigorous nursing program. She wanted a close-knit community where she could grow as both a student and an athlete. She found exactly that at NDMU, where she has thrived academically and athletically while building lifelong friendships along the way.

“The most meaningful part of my collegiate journey has been the support system I’ve built,” Sarah shared. “I’m grateful to be surrounded by so many encouraging people as this chapter of my life comes to an end.”

Juggling two collegiate sports, soccer and lacrosse, while pursuing a nursing degree is no easy feat. Yet Sarah managed to do it while earning the distinction of graduating with honors. “On the field, I found my second family in the form of a nurturing athletic department, teammates, and coaches,” she said.

Sarah’s impact goes far beyond athletics. She is an active member of campus life, she has been involved in the Student Association of Nurse at Notre Dame (SANND), the Elizabeth Morrissy Honors Program, the Writing Center, the Student Alumni Leadership Council (SALC), the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the TriBeta Biology Honor Society, the Signa Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and the Delta Epsilon Sigma Honor Society.

“My involvement around campus allowed me to develop the confidence, courage and leadership skills that I need to be successful in my role as a nurse,” she explained. “I’m immensely thankful for the many nursing courses and professors that played an important part in shaping me.”

One of the toughest points in her journey came during the transition from sophomore to junior year—when she officially entered the nursing program and faced a wave of new academic and social challenges. But with the guidance of professors and support from her peers, Sarah found her rhythm and began to thrive.

Now, as graduation approaches, Sarah reflects on her college experience with pride. “NDMU has been the most sensational and rewarding part of my life.” After graduation, she’ll begin her nursing career as a Mother/Baby nurse at Mercy Medical Center.

Her advice for incoming students? “Surround yourself with people who aspire to grow with you. A strong support network will serve as the foundation for your college journey, allowing you to make the best memories and face the lowest moments with courage and wisdom.”
