NDMU Gormley Gallery presents "Other(s)" with artist Steven Johnson

Other(s) features recent drawings by Steven Johnson. Johnson uses representational drawing to craft visual stories highlighting and illuminating “how Otherness, Power, and Erasure have physical manifestations that argue the realities of people and places depicted.”

Of his work Johnson states “I choose the figure and representation because they are objects in the human visual vocabulary that are relatable to anyone.” Through this accessibility the drawings in Other(s) create space for talking about otherness, power, and erasure

Johnson, born in Baltimore, received his BFA in Painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art and his MFA in Drawing from the New York Academy of Art. Johnson’s work has recently been exhibited in group exhibitions at Greenpoint Gallery in Brooklyn, NY, and at Flowers Gallery, in Manhattan.

Through Notre Dame of Maryland University's Art Department, Gormley Gallery provides a space for emerging and established artists and engages the community through art.

Gormley Gallery is supported by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, an agency dedicated to cultivating a vibrant cultural community where the arts thrive. Funding for the Maryland State Arts Council is also provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Free admission. Visit Gormley Gallery for more information or call 410-532-5582.
