At NDMU, we celebrate community members who have gone above and beyond in service to NDMU, Baltimore, and the world. Each year at Notre Dame Day, we present an award to a faculty member and student who best represent NDMU’s mission and commitment to service.

The Service-Learning Faculty Advocate Award

This award goes to a Notre Dame faculty member who has displayed outstanding commitment to serving others through service-learning in the classroom.

The following criteria is used in determining a recipient of this award:

  • They have incorporated service-learning into at least one course;
  • They have helped in fostering student commitment to serving their community; and
  • They have facilitated student reflection as a mechanism for understanding the value and connectedness between service-learning and course learning objectives.

The Student Service Award

This award goes to a Notre Dame junior or senior who has displayed outstanding individual commitment to serving others through involvement in community service.

The following criteria is used in determining a recipient of this award:

  • The student must be a Notre Dame junior or senior (full-time status as defined by the Registrar’s Office) with a strong academic record.
  • The student must have evidenced exemplary community service experience.
  • The community service experience should be in one or more of the following areas:
    • Health Services
    • Youth Outreach
    • Poverty
    • Human Services
    • Education
  • The student must demonstrate a strong record of service involvement and leadership in Notre Dame student groups and activities.
  • The student must have inspired and motivated other Notre Dame students to become involved in community service.
