Alison S. Gregory Named Director of the Loyola Notre Dame Library
Veteran Academic Library Leader Brings More Than Two Decades of Experience in Higher Education
Alison Gregory

By: Sabrina Miller, Content Strategy Director

Baltimore, Md.- The Loyola Notre Dame Library (LNDL) is pleased to announce the appointment of Alison S. Gregory as its new Director, effective January 26, 2026.

Gregory brings more than two decades of experience in academic librarianship, higher education leadership, and faculty engagement. She currently serves as Dean of Libraries and Assistant Provost for Special Projects at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, where she has held senior leadership roles since 2018.

“Alison is a values-driven leader with deep experience in library services and the liberal arts,” said Marguerite Mugge, Chair of the Loyola Notre Dame Library Board. “We are thrilled to welcome her great energy to our community and confident that her leadership will strengthen the Library’s role as a vital resource for all we serve.”

At Marymount, Gregory provided strategic vision and leadership for Library and Learning Services, overseeing collections, services, personnel, and a $2.2 million operating budget. She led multiple organizational restructurings to improve efficiency and service delivery, advanced data-informed collection development, and strengthened communication and collaboration across academic units. In partnership with University Advancement, she secured donor pledges to support faculty information literacy awards and co-created inclusive faculty recruitment policies to enhance diversity and equity.

In her role as Assistant Provost for Special Projects, Gregory has managed complex, institution-wide initiatives within Academic Affairs, including accreditation reporting, federal grant applications, and the University’s successful $2.3 million Title III “Strengthening Institutions Program” grant.

A nationally engaged leader, Gregory currently serves as Chair of the Virginia Independent College and University Library Association (VICULA), a subset of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia’s Virtual Library of Virginia (VIVA) consortium. She is Board Chair of the College Library Directors’ Mentor Program and National Vice President for Chapter Development for the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Her prior leadership includes service on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Academic Library Consortium, Inc. (PALCI) and as Treasurer of the Pennsylvania Library Association Executive Board.

Before joining Marymount University, Gregory held multiple faculty and administrative roles at Lycoming College’s Snowden Library in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. From 2013 to 2018, she served as Associate Dean, Director of Library Services, and Associate Professor, leading library operations, supervising faculty and staff, overseeing archives, coordinating renovations, and expanding digital repositories of student research. Earlier in her career, she served as an instructional services librarian and coordinator of information literacy and outreach, with a strong focus on teaching, assessment, and student learning.

Gregory holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Lycoming College, a Master of Science in Library Science from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of Science in Leadership and Management from Marymount University. She has completed doctoral coursework in Leadership and Organizational Innovation and is a graduate of the Harvard Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians.
