Katie McDonald

My background is in education, with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Maryland and a Master’s degree in Special Education from Towson University. I have taught elementary school music in Baltimore County Public Schools and Carroll County Public Schools. I have also worked at the P.R.I.D.E program is Westminster, MD which is an alternative elementary school placement for students with high emotional, social, and behavioral needs. During this time, I was also the Equity and Diversity trainer for our district and tutored English Language Learners. I have also been an adjunct faculty member and the director of the youth performing arts summer camps at CCBC Essex.

I was awarded Disney’s Musical Theatre Teaching grant in 2016, the “Rookie Teacher of the Year” award from Baltimore County Public Schools in 2017, and was a finalist for the M&T Ravens Touchdown for Teachers award in 2021.

I am a big believer in an empathetic, therapeutic, and creative approach to learning where children balance play and academics with the fun of being a kid!

Cecelia Crowell

Lead Teacher, Preschool Threes, Room 1
I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. I have an Associate Degree in Business. I worked for the Baltimore County Public Schools for twelve years as an Instructional Assistant. Six of those years were spent working in special education programs.

For the last fifteen years, I have worked in the three-year-old preschool program at A Child’s Place. I am a member of the Maryland State Department of Education Credentialing Program, and I hold a Level 4 Certificate.

I believe that all the useful knowledge that I have gained has come from the children that I have had the pleasure of working with and learning from. As a teacher, I find working with three-year-olds to be rewarding, challenging, inspirational, and educational on a daily basis.

Anita Ford

Lead Teacher, Prekindergarten and Kindergarten, Room 4
I am a native of Baltimore City. I graduated from the University of Virginia at Wise with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.

August 2021 marks my 20th year of teaching at A Child’s Place. During that time, I have served as a prekindergarten and kindergarten teacher, as well as Assistant Director. My philosophy is that young children learn best through play. Therefore, that is how I have always planned and implemented my lessons based on early learning standards.
