Art Therapy

Natalia Bautista Bonilla Received Yumi Cares Foundation Scholarship

The Art Therapy Department was pleased to have supported second year graduate student, Natalia Bautista Bonilla, as she received the first-ever Yumi Cares Foundation scholarship for art therapy graduate study during the recent biennial Yumi Cares Foundation Gala 2025.  Former Maryland State Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Nancy Grasmick and former First Lady, Yumi Hogan, presented Natalia with the scholarship which will support a portion of her graduate program tuition needs for 2025-2026. Mrs. Hogan has long been a fervent supporter of licensed art therapy practice and practitioner training in the state of Maryland, and through her foundation, has advanced the critical role art therapists can play within medical treatment for those battling cancer. 

 

Mallory Van Fossen Contributing Panelist at United Nations General Assembly Healing Arts Week.

Founding MA in Art Therapy program associate faculty member, Mallory Van Fossen, ATR-BC, LCPAT, ATCS, recently contributed as a panelist at the United Nations General Assembly Healing Arts Week, hosted by NYU Steinhardt. UNGA Healing Arts is a global initiative that highlights the role of the arts in advancing health, well-being, and policy. In early September,  Professor Van Fossen also provided a presentation, "Art Therapy for Pain" for the National Capitol Region Pain Initiative. This annual event brings together military healthcare providers to learn about evidence-based strategies for interdisciplinary pain management.

Professor Charles Yoe travels to Hong Kong and Publishes a Book

Professor Charles Yoe (Business and Economics, SASB) traveled to Hong Kong Polytechnic University in September, where he co-taught a course in food safety risk analysis. The program was designed to equip Hong Kong’s next generation of food safety professionals with the tools and knowledge needed to address emerging global challenges in the field.

Professor Charles Yoe (Business and Economics, SASB) has published a new book with CRC Press, The Art of Making Decisions Under Uncertainty (September 2025). Drawing on his extensive teaching and consulting experience, Dr. Yoe offers a practical guide to navigating uncertainty in professional and personal decision-making. Written for decision makers who may not have access to advanced decision theory tools, the book emphasizes accessible strategies and real-world applications across fields such as food safety, engineering, risk assessment, and public policy.

Dr. Bhodi Tims Co-Published Works

Dr. Bhodi Tims, Director Herbal Product Design and Manufacture MS Program, and Associate Professor John Courie published an article: Using Chemical Ecology as a Guide for Development and Differentiation of Clinically Relevant Phytochemical Profiles in Cannabis Trichome, in the Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research.

Dr. Bhodi Tims, Professor Keren Dolan and Associate Professor John Courie published an article, The Therapeutic Potential of Topically Applied Essential Oils in Preventing or Treating Early Borrelia burgdorferi Infection, in Planta Medica.
