BALTIMORE, Md. – For Dr. Oluwatosin Oluokun D.C.N.’26, health is more than a field of study—it is a calling shaped by personal experience and a desire to help others live well. As a wife, mother of two, entrepreneur, scholar, and upcoming graduate of the Doctor of Clinical Nutrition program from the new Notre Dame of Maryland University School of Integrated Health (NDMU SOIH), Dr. Oluokun has transformed her own wellness journey into a mission to educate and empower communities through nutrition.

More than a decade ago, Dr. Oluokun faced several health challenges, including hypertension, iron deficiency anemia, and vitamin deficiencies. Determined to improve her health, she began making lifestyle changes and incorporating juicing into her daily routine. Within a year, the results were life-changing. “My labs normalized, and so many of my health issues improved,” she said. “That experience changed everything for me.”

What began as a personal commitment to wellness soon became something much bigger. Friends and family noticed her dedication to juicing and began asking for juices of their own. Over time, that interest grew into her business, Dr. OHHH Juice, a wellness brand dedicated to helping people use nutrition as a tool for better health. “I never planned to become an entrepreneur,” Dr. Oluokun said. “It just evolved naturally from wanting to help people.”

As her business expanded, so did her desire to better understand the science behind nutrition and chronic disease prevention. Already holding a Ph.D. in healthcare management and a Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition, Dr. Oluokun chose to continue her education through the SOIH so she could deepen her expertise and combine practical wellness strategies with evidence-based knowledge.

Dr. Oluokun said the transition from Maryland School of Integrative Health (MUIH) to NDMU SOIH opened new opportunities for collaboration and research. She especially appreciated the university’s diversity and its interest in community-centered topics such as food deserts, urban health disparities, and culturally relevant nutrition solutions. “I feel like more people need to enroll in this field because we’re in a community that needs to heal,” she said.

That mission aligns closely with her own research and professional goals. Through her studies, Dr. Oluokun explored how nutrition can support individuals facing heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and women’s health concerns. She recently co-authored a manuscript on the science of detoxification and juicing, helping bridge the gap between popular wellness trends and scientific understanding. She is also developing resources focused on food deserts and ways underserved communities can gain better access to fresh, healthy foods. Her research on food deserts and culturally relevant nutrition solutions for underserved communities has also become the focus of book chapters she has authored, creating opportunities to further expand her research through the School of Integrated Health. “I realized many people are dealing with health concerns on a deeper level,” she said. “I wanted to gain the knowledge to truly make a difference.”

Dr. Oluokun also valued the university’s flexibility for working professionals, noting that the program made it possible to continue building her career while advancing her education. She believes the doctoral experience not only deepened her knowledge but also created new leadership opportunities within the field.

Looking ahead, Dr. Oluokun plans to continue growing Dr. OHHH Juice, expand her speaking engagements, and build a telemedicine-based nutrition practice that serves communities in need. This fall, she will also share her expertise internationally as an invited speaker in Nigeria, where she will present on nutrition and drug interactions.

Whether through business, research, or community outreach, Dr. Oluokun remains guided by one clear purpose: helping others take control of their health and thrive. Her story is a powerful reminder that passion, when paired with purpose, can create a lasting impact.
